Counterattacks continue, no progress in talks
Various countries are calling for an end to the reciprocal attacks between Iran and Israel. Diplomatic efforts are underway at various levels to end the conflict. An emergency session has been held at the United Nations. Although Iran has shown some interest in a diplomatic solution to the ongoing crisis, Israel is hesitant to continue the attacks. In such a situation, no progress is seen in the talks to resolve the conflict.
On the ninth day of the conflict yesterday, Saturday, Israel claimed the killing of two Iranian military officers. An Iranian nuclear facility was attacked. Iran has also attacked various areas of Israel, including Tel Aviv. In the meantime, the US media outlet New York Times reported that several of the country’s B-2 stealth bombers are moving from the United States towards the Pacific Ocean.
Amid diplomatic efforts to stop the conflict, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi went to Istanbul, Turkey yesterday. Speaking to reporters ahead of a meeting of foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in the city, Araghchi said Tehran could only return to a diplomatic solution if Israel’s attacks on Iran stopped.

In such a situation, no progress is seen in talks to resolve the conflict.
On the ninth day of the conflict, Saturday, Israel claimed to have killed two Iranian military officers. An attack was made on an Iranian nuclear facility. Iran has also attacked various areas of Israel, including Tel Aviv. In the meantime, the US media outlet The New York Times reported that several of the country’s B-2 stealth bombers are moving from the United States towards the Pacific Ocean.
Amid diplomatic efforts to end the conflict, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi traveled to Istanbul, Turkey, yesterday. He spoke to reporters before the start of a conference of foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states in the city. There, Araghchi said that Tehran can only return to the path of diplomatic solutions if Israel stops its attacks on Iran.
Israel objects to this. The country’s leaders claim that Iran is developing nuclear weapons. They will not stop until the goal of destroying this capability is achieved. Stating that the United States has supported Israel since the beginning of the attack, Araghchi said yesterday that it is not possible for Iran to return to talks with the United States in such a situation.
The talks between the United States and Iran were ongoing to reach an agreement on Iran’s nuclear projects. Tehran suspended them after the Israeli attack began. The foreign ministers of the UK, France and Germany, as well as the European Union’s foreign policy chief, met with Abbas Araghchi in Geneva on Friday to try to get Iran back into the talks. Both sides said the talks were “constructive” but did not offer any hope of ending the conflict soon. There was also no positive news from the UN Security and Human Rights Council sessions on Friday.
Tehran University professor Zohreh Kharazmi believes that progress in a diplomatic solution to end the conflict requires respect for Iran’s sovereignty. He told Al Jazeera that Iran has no trust in the West. On the one hand, they are holding talks with Iran, while on the other hand, they are giving Israel the green light to attack. For diplomacy to succeed, Iran’s sovereignty must be respected.
